Music by the Sea Summer Jazz Camp
Recognized by CN8 as on of the region's most innovative summer camps, The Music By the Sea Summer Jazz Camp brings together talented youth to enhance their musical skills and to learn from legendary jazz greats. A collaborative effort between IDEA and Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation, Inc., the Camp involves intensive workshops for talented middle school and high school students from Atlantic City, Camden and Philadelphia. It also serves as rehearsal time for the teenagers who get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the Chicken Bone Beach Jazz Concert Series on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. The young musicians are the opening act for jazz artists on the program; legends such as Donald Byrd, Wallace Rooney, Jimmy and Tootie Heath and Orrin Evans. Before the performance, the students have the opportunity to study directly under these jazz greats in day-long master classes.
